Preserving Survey Equipment History with Meticulous Servicing and Calibration

Wild Heerbrugg AG, known simply as Wild, was a Swiss company that was a pioneer in the field of surveying equipment. Established in 1921 in Heerbrugg, Switzerland, Wild became known for its high-precision optical and mechanical instruments, which were widely used in surveying, photogrammetry, and geodesy. Over the years, Wild developed a reputation for quality and innovation in the industry.

In the 1980s, Wild merged with Leica (which itself was part of the Ernst Leitz company, famous for its cameras) to form Leica Geosystems. Leica continued the tradition of producing high-quality surveying instruments and expanded into digital and GPS-based surveying technology. Today, Leica Geosystems is a leading global provider of surveying equipment, known for its accuracy and durability.

The Wild/Leica NA2 is an icon of this distant past in the field of surveying. It symbolises the exceptional quality, precision, and robust craftsmanship that characterised Swiss engineering during the 20th century.

Servicing and Calibration of your equipment - Old or New

For equipment buffs like us at Scotia Survey and Safety, and those who worked with these instruments or collect them today, the NA2 represents a connection to the history of surveying. It’s a reminder of the skill and expertise required to produce accurate measurements before the advent of modern technology. It's also reflective of the skill and expertise required to keep these crucial tools functional.

At Scotia, we know that these artefacts are more than just old pieces of equipment; they are an emblem of a period when craftsmanship, precision, and durability were paramount.

We were honoured to be trusted with servicing our client's 'Wild' NA2, and to this day it remains one of the oldest pieces of equipment to receive calibrating in our workshop. As an artefact of a bygone era, it was deeply admired by our team, who appreciate the art and science of traditional surveying. Perhaps even a bit too much at times...

"After completing the servicing of the Leica NA2, our reality capture specialist and equipment geek, Filippos, could be seen proudly carrying the NA2 around the workshop like it was a newborn baby!"
